For many years, I kept my artwork close to my heart, sharing only with a few friends and loved ones. Creating drawings and illustrations was something personal, almost sacred, that helped me process and express what I felt inside. Now, however, I feel called to step into the light, to share my creations with the world.
So, here I am, opening up about my life as an artist.
Art as a Way of Processing
My artwork has always been more than just lines and colors; it’s a way for me to understand and process my experiences. When I struggle to find words to describe new perspectives or emotions, I turn to my pen and paper. My drawings become a language of their own, filled with the complexities of what I feel but cannot explain. The art I create often feels like a download from something greater than myself. I regularly meditate, and from those meditations, new ideas, images, and visions emerge. It's as though the universe whispers to me, and my hands respond by sketching out what words alone could never capture.
Art as a Practice of Presence
When I draw or paint, I feel like I’m fully present in the moment. It brings me a sense of wholeness, as though all parts of myself come together. It’s an experience of flow, where ideas seem to pour out effortlessly. This state of being has become one of my greatest joys. For a long time, though, I found comfort in keeping my art private. It was easier to keep my drawings to myself, protected from judgment or the vulnerability that comes with sharing. But over time, I realized that my art, like all art, isn’t just for me. Art is a gift for everyone.
Why I'm Sharing My Art Now?
I believe deeply that we all have the capacity to be creators. Whether we call ourselves artists or not, we are constantly creating—ideas, emotions, connections, and experiences. As an artist, or rather as a human being, it’s a privilege to channel something more, something beyond ourselves, and bring it into form here on Earth. It’s an exciting and joyful process that I believe everyone should embrace. That’s why I’m choosing to share my drawings now. I no longer want to hide my work away. I’ve come to understand that our creations can have an impact far beyond what we imagine. We don’t know how our art—whether it's painting, writing, music, or any form of expression—can touch others or inspire them. And that’s why I believe so strongly that we must share our work, even when it feels vulnerable or uncomfortable.
Art Belongs to Everyone
I don’t believe that art belongs to the artist alone. It’s something for the world, something to be experienced and interpreted by others. When I draw, I’m just one part of a larger process—one thread in the beautiful, ever-evolving tapestry of creation. And I know that by sharing my art, I am contributing to that greater collective expression. So, here I am, offering up my illustrations, sketches, and hand-drawn works with the hope that they can connect, inspire, or bring a new perspective to someone else’s journey.
Join Me in Sharing Your Work
To anyone out there reading this, especially if you’ve ever doubted the worth of your own creations—whether you’re a painter, a writer, a dreamer, or someone who expresses their creativity in any form—I encourage you to share your work too.
Don’t keep it hidden in a closet. You never know the impact it could have on someone’s life.
We all have a part to play in shaping the world, and sharing what’s inside of us is one of the most powerful ways to do that.
So, let’s be brave. Let’s create. And most importantly, let’s share. Because what you bring to the world matters. And you might just be the spark that lights up someone else’s life.
With love and creative joy,
Jem
